I started my usual pre-trip insomnia. Actually, I can fall asleep, I just wake up at 3 and can't go back to sleep. So, here I am-the day we leave-finally getting the new blog going. Perhaps that chronic procrastination issue is related to the insomnia. Hmmmm...
Today is Friday, January 30 and we leave for St. Louis late this afternoon. The kids and I fly out at 6 am tomorrow and will be in Guatemala City around 1pm. Then it is the long customs and immigration line and then a 45 minute drive to Antigua. I hope we will be settled in at our homestay location around 4pm and have a few hours to explore before it gets dark. Steve won't head down until Feb 7th but then he will be with us the rest of the trip. We will all fly home on February 27th.
The kiddos and I will have all day Sunday to get acclimated to the world of Central America (it really takes more than one day, but that's what we've got) and then off to Spanish class on Monday morning. We will be in class from 8 to 12, each with a separate teacher. After class we will grab some almuerzo (lunch) and then find an afternoon activity. Perhaps a park or a museum or a cathedral. We will eat dinner with our homestay family and then spend the evening doing homework, reading, or visiting with some of the new people we will meet. I was told that the families we will be staying with (one in Antigua and one in Lake Atitlan) will have children so I hope the kids will have friends.
As usual, when traveling in a developing country, I don't know what the internet situation will be so I'm not sure when the next blog will appear. I know there is some way that you can mark this blog so that you get an email when there is a new post, but I don't know how to do that. If you do, please post if for everyone else.
Hasta Luego!

There is a "subscribe to: posts (Atom)" link at the very end of the page... however long it is. The next page gave me a choice of how I would like to subscribe. I use Google Reader (and firefox)YMMV ^.^
